Distance Education at UW-Platteville
Recognized as a leader in distance education for the last 35 years, UW-Platteville has been named “Best School for Online Education” in Wisconsin for three consecutive years, offering master’s degrees that help graduates develop their professional skills and achieve their academic goals.
University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s distance learning program began in 1978, offering a single bachelor’s degree with class materials delivered via mail. Three years later, its first graduating class numbered just 5. In-keeping with this tradition of leadership in distance education, UW-Platteville became the first public university in Wisconsin to deliver an entire degree online in 1999. The first online graduating class consisted of 13 people in 2001.
Fast forward to 2011, when UW-Platteville Online surpassed 1,000 graduates, and to today, with our online learning structure becoming a model of excellence for distance education programs across the country. We now reach more than 2,500 students worldwide, offering eight degrees at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Our online graduate programs in criminal justice and child advocacy studies live up to this high standard of success in distance learning. The programs are as comprehensive and rigorous as they are convenient and flexible. Though each of our online students is encouraged to come visit us on campus, the programs can be completed 100% online without ever stepping foot in a classroom. Coursework is delivered asynchronously, meaning that you can move through the program at a pace that suits your busy schedule.
While the full master’s degree can be completed in as little as 2 years and the certificates in less, we recognize that circumstances may prevent our students from advancing in the program, temporarily. To address this, we offer a high degree of flexibility in terms of completion time, allowing students 7 years from the time they start to finish the program, if need be.
It’s this sort of commitment to supporting student success and the needs of working professionals that’s distinguished UW-Platteville as a true pioneer of online learning. Our first goal is to help you succeed, both academically and professionally. To learn how we help online students with disabilities realize their full potential, visit our Disability Services page.
